Mira Gala 2026
Mira Gala 2026 marks its 51st year as a long-standing, community-driven festival serving Marion Bridge and the surrounding areas. The Gala plays an important role in fostering community pride, cultural engagement, and collaboration among residents, local organizations, and businesses.
The 2026 festival will run from June 25 to July 5 and offers a diverse program of inclusive, accessible events designed for all age groups. Based on attendance figures from 2025, the Gala anticipates welcoming more than 2,000 participants across the festival period, contributing to community connection and enhanced economic activity. Mira Gala is fully volunteer run, demonstrating strong community ownership and capacity. Building on the success of the 2025 festival, volunteer participation has increased, supporting the sustainability and growth of the event. In addition to extensive collaboration with local groups (22 organizations in 2025), Mira Gala 2026 is strengthening its programming through strategic partnerships. The festival is partnering with KitchenFest to present a concert celebrating traditional music and heritage, welcoming a wider demographic. Two Rivers Wildlife Park will host the outdoor closing concert, which positively impacts Park/Gala attendance. Discussions are underway with Membertou First Nation inviting the Mi’kmaw community to play an integral role, enhancing cultural access and community engagement in a unique setting. Mira Gala 2026 is also collaborating with Molly’s Mission charity.
One significant area of impact is marketing. Advertising and direct marketing allows us to reach a broader audience and access a wider demographic. Attendance at the 2025 Mira Gala increased significantly compared to 2024, a result that can be directly attributed to enhanced marketing initiatives, including a logo update (Anchored Ideas, Sydney), paid radio advertising (local FM stations 89.7, 101.9, 103.5), direct mail campaigns, and an expanded social media presence. Continued investment in these areas will help sustain and grow this momentum.
The Gala committee is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the area’s rich cultural heritage. Canada Day programming plays a key role in this effort. The community Heritage Day will highlight local history through the display of photographs, antique items, and a speakers’ session. The 2026 theme focuses on the area’s three bridges—Albert Bridge, Marion Bridge, and Victoria Bridge—symbolizing connection, continuity, and shared community history. In addition, the Mira Gala is actively fostering cultural education and reconciliation through collaboration with local Mi’kmaw leadership. Through discussions with a local Elder plans include a Mi’kmaw presence at this year’s festival. “Cultural preservation is about building bridges between our history and the future, creating opportunities to share stories and celebrate Mi’kmaw resilience.” (Jeff Ward). This perspective aligns seamlessly with the 2026 Gala’s “Bridge” theme and reinforces the event’s commitment to reconciliation and cultural understanding.
The Gala’s 2026 Kick-off Party will take place on Sunday, June 7, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Marion Bridge Community Hall.
The 2026 schedule will be unveiled and this year’s sponsors announced. Watch for further details.

Mira Gala – Marking 51 Years
Mira Gala 2026 marks its 51st year as a long-standing, community-driven festival serving Marion Bridge and the surrounding areas. What began as a one-day event on August 16, 1975, evolved into a 10-day festival, fostering community pride, cultural engagement and collaboration amount residents, local organizations and businesses.
While the motivation for the initial Mira Gala was to celebrate the newly formed Marion Bridge Recreation Association, gather the community together, and enjoy one another’s company, it developed into a major celebration and fundraising opportunity for our churches, non-profit groups, and the host organization. In 1976, construction began on the Marion Bridge Community Hall (formerly the Marion Bridge Recreation Centre) under the auspices of the Association. It was a costly venture, which was only made possible through resident commitments, government grants and community fund-raising initiatives. Once completed, there were operational costs associated with maintaining the building and programs. The hall was, and continues to be, an important fixture in our area, providing a gymnasium and concert venue for the Marion Bridge Elementary School students, as well as a place for residents and organizations to host events, celebrate milestones, and enjoy sporting activities. The Mira Gala played a vital role in the yearly fundraising program.
In 1976, it was decided to move the Gala date to July to include Canada Day celebrations. Every year saw an enhanced schedule and increasingly enthusiastic participants. We’ve hosted stellar talent, including Natalie McMaster, Bruce Guthro, The Men of the Deeps, Rawlins Cross, Terry Kelly, McGinty, etc.—an impressive and extensive list. Dances and pub nights sold out in record time with long waiting lists for tickets. Events were hosted in several locales–the Mira Pasture, Two Rivers Wildlife Park, and, of course, the Mira River. There were markets, breakfasts, strawberry festivals, concerts; helicopter rides; canoe, bathtub, duck, and road races; lumberjack shows; beef-on-a-bun; and games galore (the dunk tank was always a big draw). Gala highlights continue to be the Canada Day parade, boat parade, and fireworks, drawing crowds from all over the Island. The Gala was the event of the summer. Year after year everyone, especially children, looked forward to the Gala, creating long-lasting friendships and memories.
There were several years when the Mira Gala was in decline and, of course, it was necessary to forgo activities due to Covid-19 restrictions. However, thanks to dedicated Council members and community involvement, the Gala is once again enjoying a welcome resurgence.
Preparations are well under way for Mira Gala 2026– we look forward to celebrating our remarkable community.
